David passed away peacefully today after a short illness with family by his side. He leaves behind his wife Jennie, daughters Janet, Joanne and their spouses, and his son David, Jr. His pride and joy in later life was his granddaughter Marie and his great granddaughter Alice. He also leaves his brother Clinton of Fountain Hills, Arizona, and his twin brother Donald of Cape Coral, FL. David’s parents, who are now deceased, were Arlene and Clinton Gurney of West Abington. After graduating from Abington High School with the class of 1960, David and his twin brother Donald joined the Navy, where David served proudly and honorably for five years. After being discharged from the Navy, David worked for the local telephone company and retired after 35 years of service. David was a member of the American Legion Post of Abington. He was also an amateur radio operator and held the call sign WA1 YZH, and now joins the many other ham radio operators who have become silent keys. David was a lover of nature and enjoyed the presence of the hummingbirds that enjoyed the feeding station that he provided for them. The many deer that fed off the vegetation in his back yard were observed many times. The ship has left the harbor, and David is now on his final cruise. His next port of entry will be at the gateway of Heaven. David will be cremated, and at a later date he will be laid to rest at the Bourne National Military Cemetery. A full military funeral with honors will take place at this time. I can hear the bugle in the distance and taps is the sound that rings in my ears. God bless you, Dave. May you rest in peace.
