Edwin Arthur Putkonen

Edwin Arthur Putkonen, age 81, and long-time resident of Abington MA, passed away on March 24, 2017. Originally, from Chicago, IL, he was a proud fan of the 2016 World Champion Cubs. He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Margaret M. Putkonen, his son Edwin G. Putkonen and daughter-in-law Stephanie of Loudon TN, his son Brian C. Putkonen and daughter-in-law Linda of South Windsor CT, and his grandson Kevin Putkonen, also of South Windsor CT.

Edwin was a proud graduate of the United States Naval Academy and enjoyed retelling his stories about his service in the United States Navy. He was active in the community and volunteered for many years with several Veteran groups. His previous employment as an engineer took him on many journeys throughout the world, and included General Dynamics/Electric Boat, Beth Israel Hospital, and Stone and Webster. Edwin will be sorely missed by his long-time friends and family.

Services will include visitation on Thursday March 30, 2017 from 4 to 6pm in the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington.  A funeral mass will be held Friday March 31, 2017 at 9am in St. Bridget Church, Abington, followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
