Vincent Giovanni Baier of Rockland (formerly of Halifax,
MA), died Monday, September 19, 2016 at South Shore
Hospital. He recently celebrated his 81st birthday.
He was the beloved husband of Joan (Wiseman)
Baier, beloved father of Elizabeth (Baier) Reed of
Rockport and Maggie (Baier) Collins of Norwell. Adored
Grandfather (Papa) of Alexander and Savannah Reed,
Samantha and Victoria Collins.
Vincent grew up in Boston. He graduated from Wentworth
Institute and was a veteran who proudly served in the US
Coast Guard. He was an architect and an artist. He retired
from Stone and Webster Engineering Corp. He was also
the designer of many restaurants and commercial
kitchens. Vincent was a founding member of the Abington
Art Association. He enjoyed teaching art classes at the
Rockland Senior Center.
Vincent, who preferred to be called Giovanni, was a happy
man who loved to laugh and tell his jokes. Everyone he
met had the chance to hear his favorites.
During his youth, Vincent summered on Martha’s Vineyard
and vacationed with his wife and family at his family home
in Oak Bluffs every year. He enjoyed painting, sailing his
sunfish, napping on the beach and visiting his favorite
haunts in Oak Bluffs.
He was a kind, loving, gentle man who will be greatly
missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday,
October 15th,from 2-4:30 pm at the Scituate Maritime
Center, 119 Edward Foster Road, Scituate, MA. Friends
are welcome to join Vincent’s family in a celebration of his
life.
