Virginia J. Connor

Virginia J. Connor, 89, died in her home on Saturday, April 9, after a brief illness. Born on April 25, 1921 and raised in Hingham, MA, Virginia was the daughter of the late James Alfred and Imelda (Leary) Magner. During World War II, she served as an American Red Cross nurse. After the war, she married the late Eugene R. Connor of Winchendon, MA. In 1955, they moved their growing family to Abington, MA, where she lived until her death. During these growing years, Virginia worked as a hostess in area restaurants, before becoming the receptionist at East Weymouth Pediatrics, where she worked until her retirement. During her lifetime, Virginia was also active in many organizations. For many years, she was a member of Our Lady’s Sodality, and an officer in the Catholic Women’s Guild, the Women’s Democratic League, and was also served as a Cub Scout den mother. Her hobbies included art and sewing.
She is survived by five daughters, Maureen C. Simmons, wife of Paul F, of Hanson, Sheila M. Skorohod, wife of Paul M. of Rehoboth, Patricia E. Lochiatto, wife of Michael of Rockland, Cathleen A. Smith, wife of Kevin K. of Abington, Virginia J. Ahearn, wife of J. Michael of Marshfield, and two sons, Eugene R, Jr., husband of Kristin of Marshfield and Daniel J. of Abington. She is also the beloved grandmother, “Nana” to 24 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. A wake will be held from 4-8 pm at Quealy & Son Funeral Home on Monday April 11, 116 Adams Street, Abington. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Bridget Church, Abington on Tuesday, April 12 at 9am. Internment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rockland.
