Barbara Marquardt Obituary

Barbara Ann (Kennedy) Marquardt, 85, of Abington, formerly of Dorchester, passed away on August 6th surrounded by her loving family following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.  Wife of the late Ramon Marquardt; loving mother of Ramon Marquardt and wife Mary of East Bridgewater, Paul Marquardt of Abington, and Carol (Marquardt) MacLeod and husband Don of Billerica; and cherished grandmother (Nanny) of Patricia (Marquardt) Butrica and husband Sean of Bridgewater, Christopher Marquardt of Abington, and Caitlin, Amanda and Sara MacLeod of Billerica.  Barbara was the youngest sister of the late Joseph Kennedy, Charles Kennedy, Winifred Smith, Viginia Bodio, and Louise Garneau.  Sister-in-law of Leonard and Dorothy Marquardt of Abington.  Also survived by several nieces, nephews and close friends.

Barbara always had a kind word and friendly smile for everyone.  “Nana B’s” sweetness was infectious, which made her a favorite in her neighborhood – adored by both young and old.  Her door was always open for anyone that ever needed anything or that just wanted to talk.  Barbara found happiness in life’s simple pleasures – a conversation on her deck, a walk with a friend, an ice cream on a summer’s day.  But her truest joy and deepest pride came from her children and grandchildren.  Barbara enjoyed following the Boston Celtics and New England Patriots and was often seen covered head-to-toe in sports gear supporting her home team.

Barbara recently was residing at Windrose of Weymouth, a memory care assisted living facility where she was surrounded by wonderful compassionate people.

Visitation will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams St, Abington MA – Thursday August 9th 4pm-7pm.  A funeral mass will be held on Friday August 10th at 9am in St. Bridget Church in Abington MA.  Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Rockland MA.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (ALZ.ORG) in Barbara’s memory.
