"Grammy Burke" joined me in my classroom every Thursday at Center School without fail since her grand daughter Alyssa was in my class five years ago. Every year since then, even after Alyssa and Kaitlyn went off to first grade, she continued to volunteer. She was so dedicated and brought such happiness to each child she worked with. She became a regular and such a valuable asset that I could trust her with any lesson and she would work with the kids with a level of patience and kindness only a "Grammy" could. The rich conversations she had during reading activities or science experiments were always so appreciated by both myself and the children she worked with and I know they meant as much to her. She was always so incredibly thoughtful writing out personal Valentines for each student every year to collecting recyclables and box tops for our class. I cannot express adequately my sadness that she will not scare me every Thursday when she arrives (despite my always expecting her she'd arrive during the kids' recess and sneak up on me! It got to the point she'd poke her head in and say, "it's just me!"). I consider myself blessed to have met her and have her as a friend for so many years. I will miss the conversations about our students for whom she cared so much, her family or my mine each week. She always had such sound advice whether about students or life in general. So many Abington kindergarten students over the last five years are so lucky to have had her influence and support at such a young age. We will be lost without her for so many Thursdays to come but we do have so many fun stories and memories from class to keep her memory alive.

Fondly, Amy Fedrick & Gail Bergin

My daughter and I were lucky enough to get to know "Grammy Burke" thru her volunteerism at the Center School. Each week, my little girl looked forward to her visits and being provided with her special "Grammy" touch. She was truly a special and giving person.

Sending the Burke family our deepest sympathies & love.

Wish I could be with you all this weekend. Linda was a special person, always there to help others and smiling while doing it. The last time we were together was at Jason and Michelle's wedding and we talked about Chris and the grandkids. Just thinking of them made her eyes sparkle. She was truly loved and will be truly missed,

Linda was one of my 'aunties'. Growing up down the street on Peregrine Road, my Mom, 'auntie Judy' and 'auntie Burkey' kept me on the straight and narrow. My favorite memory from Abington is of those three raising us kids like we all were theirs. In a sense, we were. Deepest sympathies to George and Chris and family. Miss you auntie Burkey.

I had the privilege of knowing Linda through working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. At first, she was just located outside my office and later joined my group where Linda took on the role of being my right hand for many years ~ if I could think it, she could get the plan to paper. I relied on her knowledge and abilities while counting on her integrity to do the right thing and give me sound advice. She was also compassionate and counsel to many of the younger associates within the team; she helped to mold many careers.

I came to know Linda more personally as we worked together and the years passed. I admired her for the love of family and she taught me a lot about the need to find balance in my life. We had been able to maintain contact, found time for the occasional email, and always managed a breakfast or lunch whenever I was in Boston ~ I will truly cherish the times we were able to catch up.

I am heartbroken to see her pass at such a young age. My thoughts and prayers go to George, Christopher, Stephanie and the granddaughters who lighted up her life.

She touched many of us during her short time here; the memories will be cherished and her presence will truly be missed. Love and hugs, janet
