I was deeply saddened upon hearing of Marybeth's passing. Having worked alongside her for several years, I reflect on her compassion and humanity as she cared for her patients as a Registered Nurse. So proud of the profession of nursing, she embodied everything it is to be a great nurse. She was the consummate professional, bringing care and credibility to the bedside. I am forever grateful for her service to this country. An expert in the area of traumatic brain injury, her dedication to veterans was steadfast and vital. Personally, Marybeth would always have another minute to spend, another ear to lend, another seed of wisdom to offer. I will always remember her for the sincere caring she brought to this world - and to me.

Dear family and friends of Marybeth:
Marybeth presided over my commissioning on the U.S Constitution as a Navy Reserve Nurse. She brought me into the reserves. I will never forget her tremendous love of life. She was always upbeat, energetic and giving. I enjoyed hearing about her children who were young at the time of our meeting. She was very proud of them. I envision her the picture of sunlight. She was very much a nurse and a navy nurse and a tremendous support for veterans. Her love of people was demonstrated visibly. I saw her notice in the paper just this morning. I would have loved to attend her mass of the celebration of her life on earth. In the spirit of my faith, I shall pray for her, her family and friends. Marybeth, you leave a tremendous legacy of love and life/ What an enormous gift you have given us even those of us who did not know you so well. After all these years, I continue to remember you with great fondness and admiration. With love to yours to carry on your mission of grace and joy.

Marybeth was one of a kind- enthusiastic, professional, hard working, 150% Navy, and beyond all a great friend and shipmate. Marybeth taught me so much about Navy Medical Recruiting. I had the honor of taking over the helm from her at the Navy Reserve Recruiting Office in Quincy, MA. As the Catholic chaplain at UMass Boston I was privileged to not only know Marybeth but to have an office just down the hall from hers. I saw her frequently both at daily Mass and during informal interactions. She was a very faith filled woman whose care and concern for others, especially her family, was very evident. She will be sorely missed by myself and the Catholic community at UMass Boston.

I met MaryBeth while volunteering with my Seabee shipmates at 'Operation Stand Down' in S.Boston. To this day, I remember her first impression on us "what a super lady and she's a Navy officer!" We ALL would do anything for her. She had that kind of magnetism. MaryBeth got me to go to 'Veterans Upward Bound'. Best thing I ever did.
My heart goes out to her family. Life can be so cruel sometimes. But CDR O'Sullivan would say "keep up your effort, you'll make it." God Bless Her...

I lost a mentor and a friend. MaryBeth was always encouraging and even worried about my health even though she was going through a tough battle with cancer. Two years ago, I was just starting at a new job at Volunteers of America- young and not sure what I was doing- I was thrown into the position of organizing the Veterans Massachusetts Stand Down. Through this, I had the honor and privledge to meet Marybeth. She was one of the "rocks" of Stand Down. She knew the ins and outs of the event, she was at every meeting and most of all she truly cared so much about every veteran we served. I feel blessed to have had Marybeth as a co-worker and eventually a friend. She was such a kind, warm, welcoming and genuine person. Her smile and kind heart won't be forgotten by me- or the hundreds of veterans she helped through the years. She will be sorely missed.

Marybeth was an outstanding officer and friend. I mourn her loss but am glad that our paths crossed. There are some people in life we meet that make us better men and women. I first met Marybeth at our Massachusetts Association of Public Health Nursing conference in 2007 where she spoke about at risk and homeless veterans, and about an opportunity to volunteer at Operation Stand Down. That first year, MAPHN nurses volunteered to provide foot care for this vulnerable population. We started with 2 nurses and have grown to 24 nurse volunteers and medical reserve corps volunteers who still provide this valuable and unmet health need to this population. It is with heartfelt sadness that we hear of Marybeths passing. There is a short video that talks about Marybeth introducing the nurses to Operation Stand Down on our website www.maphn.org.
