Ruth Jeanette (Poole) Hastings, formerly from South Weymouth, passed after a period of declining health on July 20th, a month shy of her 91st birthday. Ruth was the youngest child of Grace (Shaw) and Lester Poole of Abington, MA. She graduated from Abington High School where she was a cheerleader. Her interest in football was the source of her collection of Abington football pictures and newspaper clippings which she donated to the authors of the 100th anniversary book about the Abington/Whitman Hanson Football rivalry.
After graduating from secretarial school, Ruth worked for many years as an executive secretary in New York City and in Boston. An avid sports fan, Ruth and her husband attended many Red Sox and Bruins games over the years. She is predeceased by her husband Edward J. Hastings, her sister Helen (Poole) Atwood, her brother Stewart Poole and her two cousins, Allison and George Stone. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Quealy and Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington, Friday, July 27 at 9:30am-10:30am with a funeral service immediately following. Interment will be private.
