Vincent Hagerty

Vin Hagerty of Abington, age 91, passed away on April 30th surrounded by his wife “Honey” and 8 children -- Kathi, Fran, John, Mike, Pat, Tom, Paul and Eileen.  There were also 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandkids that loved and were loved by their “Pappy.”  He is survived by his sister Mary Tarrant and many in-laws that loved him dearly.

First and foremost in Vin’s life was his family.  He was the most loving, caring and fun dad and “Pappy” a kid could ever ask for -- always feeling loved. . .  always feeling safe and secure. After 65 wonderful years of marriage with “Honey,” their love affair provided their children and grandchildren with the boilerplate of what love, relationships and marriage should be. 

Vin’s proudest achievement, beyond his children, was his service to God and his country as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division.  As a member of an elite Paratrooper Team called “Task Force Frigid,” Vin jumped in temperatures 60 degrees below zero to see just how much a body could be pushed. He carried this “grit” with him for the remainder of his life.

After graduating from BC High School, he received his Undergraduate at Boston College and his Master’s at Bridgewater State.  Vin served as principal and educator for 31 years in Weymouth where he changed and enhanced the lives of thousands of teachers and kids that remember him 50+ years later. While most kids feared their principals, “Mr. Hagerty” invited students to his office to play checkers to build relationships and better understand his kids.

As a husband, father, grandfather, teacher and coach, there are thousands of lives Vin has impacted.  The hole left in our hearts serves as a reminder of how much we loved him and how incredible he was.

A private service was held by the family at Quealy Funeral Home.
