Obituary

ABINGTON Alfred W. Wright, age 98, son of Ernest Wright and Grace Gowell Wright, died December 31, 2010. He was born in Rockland, MA, lived thirteen years in Ontario, Canada, and then moved to Abington where he graduated from high school in 1929. After three years in the Merchant Marines, he attended night school at Wentworth Institute while he worked for Abington-Rockland Light and Power, and for Plymouth Rock Ice Cream Company, where he began his career in refrigeration service. After thirty-nine years of working for the Brockton Edison Company, combined with thirty years of part time work for McCarthy Ice Cream Company and for Wright Refrigeration Service, he retired in 1975. Alfred enjoyed his family, friends, home, yard, gardens, "tinkering", hunting, fishing, bird watching, music, his piano, making brownies, crossword puzzles, cribbage, and most especially, helping others. He was active in the Abington Baptist Church for sixty-five years and had a graceful life. He was predeceased by Helen Douglas Wright after thirty-four years of marriage, and by Shirley Dyer Hoyt Wright after thirty-one years of marriage. He is survived by his daughters Joanne O'Hara, Shirley Peterson, and Pamela Bannerman, his stepdaughters Phyllis Henrikson, Diane Jordan, Jean Carey, and Roberta Brown, and by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2PM on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at The First Baptist Church of North Abington, 219 Adams St., Abington, MA.
