Andrew Phillips, 87, of Abington, died on July 29, 2010 in the Signature Healthcare/Brockton Hospital following a very long illness.
He was born in Attleboro, son of the late William and Mary (Dekterow) Phillips.
A veteran, Mr. Phillips served in the US Army during World War II. A tank driver, he was also a tank destroyer and repaired radios.
He was an instructor for the NRA for 25 years (1985-2010) and was a ham radio operator with call letters W1EiK (1955-2010). Mr. Phillips was a master pipefitter (1980-2008) a field engineer (1958-2003) a gas combustion service owner for 23 years (1980-2003) and a morse code operator (25 wpm). He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
His hobbies included fly tieing, gardening, cooking, canning his own food, making his own bullets and rope.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia A. (Barry) Phillips of Abington; one daughter: Pamela (Phillips) Hanna of N. Carolina; two sons: Robert Phillips of Westminster and Scott Phillips of Hollis, NH; one step-son: Frank Andrews of Abington; one brother: William Phillips of Rockland; three grandchildren: Jennifer, Timothy and Caden; one great-grandson: Charlie.
