Obituary

Dr. Ann Britt Waling passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on January 12,2024. Born in Cambridge, MA. on June 18, 1948, Ann Marie Britt was the first of eight children born to  Margaret Mary (Murphy) and Joseph Roderick Britt. She and her family grew up in eastern and central Massachusetts. As the eldest child in a busy working class family, she had many responsibilities and professional ambitions. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield and went on to receive a bachelor's degree from Framingham State College. She continued her education at Purdue University where she received both her Masters and Doctorate. Professionally Ann spent the majority of her career at Keene State College in Keene, NH where she was the Dean of Professional and Graduate Studies. She helped to develop the women's studies program and was active in the Children's Literature Festival. Ann loved the  Monadnock area where she lived and raised her family for over 25 years. Ann met her husband Barrett Waling in the early stages of her career in Keene and they raised their two sons Douglas and Andrew.  As a family, they were active in the community and enjoyed hosting gatherings in their home. They sustained a large number of relationships and friendships that have continued throughout the years. They also enjoyed many summers with family and friends on Manomet Beach in Plymouth, MA.

In February 2000, Ann suffered her first stroke. After years of rehabilitation and recovery, Ann worked extremely hard to regain her independent spirit with the help of family and friends who were vital in her care and recovery. After the death of her husband in 2005, Ann decided to live in the very place she loved to visit every summer, the Britt family home in Manomet.

Ann loved and adored her entire family including her three beautiful grandbabies, along with a special grand dog, Murphy. Ann is pre deceased by her husband, Barrett, mother, Margaret (Maggie) and father, Roderick Britt sisters, Margaret (Peg) and Joan. Ann leaves behind many family members on earth: Douglas Waling and wife Noelle, and their children, Carter, Elizabeth and Joseph; Andrew Waling. Siblings, Barbara Britt-Hysell and husband Jon, Jay Britt and wife Lyn, Rod Britt, Bill Britt, Vincent Britt and wife Marianne as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ann's family offers tribute to Myrtle Johnson, Ann's dear friend and compassionate caregiver. We also send a heartfelt thank you to Life Care Center of Plymouth as they have cared for Ann for the last 14 years.

A gravesite burial and celebration of life will be April 20, 2024 in Keene, NH. for all who wish to gather to celebrate the life of Ann Britt Waling. Place and time will be shared at a later date.
