Barbara Adams Bowers Valovic of Rockland, February 25, age 73, Loving mother of Matthew Camporeale of Berkeley CA, Elizabeth Valovic of Gloucester, Stefanie Valovic and husband Aaron Miller of South Boston; Loving sister of Marion Ball of CA, Rick Bowers of Hawaii, and the late Bill Bowers; Also, survived by her loving partner of over ten years to John "Dusty" Destrampe of Rockland and many more dear ones.
Barbara founded The Women's Energy Exchange, a dance aerobics course that she taught in Hingham. Prior to her retirement, Barbara Coordinated the Mass. General Hospital Radiology Residency Program for Harvard Medical School students. Barbara was also a life-long artist: promoting, showing, and sharing her work.
Barbara was an avid member of the Abington Art Association, the South Shore Arts Center, and helped lead several painting groups. She co-founded the Old Ship Labyrinth Dancers, was an original member of REACH (Responsible Energy Alternatives Coalition (founded in Hingham in 1979), and a long-time member of the Old Ship Church. She graduated from the Oakland High School in the class of 1955.
Barbara was an avid dancer. She loved ballroom dancing every weekend Dusty and their group of dancers. She was also an avid fisherwoman who enjoyed the challenge of competing in local tournaments, having won 1st place in the womens division and wining grand prize in the Monahan Marine Tournament in August 2005; she also finished 2nd in the Governors Cup with a black sea bass weighing 5lb 8oz.
Barbara was a vibrant passionate woman who loved everything she did and shared it with others. Barbara was a Renaissance woman with many gifts in the Arts, Sciences, and in Health Promotion. She was an enthusiastic reader and world traveler. Barbara lived with an open heart to give and receive love. There is so much more to say.
A visitation will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home at 116 Adams St., Abington Friday March 4 from 5 to 8 pm. A Celebration of Barbara's Life will be held Saturday March 5 at 4 pm at the Old Ship Church, 90 Main St., Hingham, MA. Donations can be made in memory of Barbara to The Old Ship Church.
