Anderson
February 18, 1944 – August 27, 2024
The family of Bernadette S. Anderson, formerly of Abington, is deeply saddened to announce her passing on August 27, 2024, at the age of 80. Bernadette (Bernie) was born on February 18, 1944, in Boston, MA, to Arthur and Evelyn Kelley (nee Timmons). She was one of twelve children and grew up with an older sister, five older brothers, and was the big sister to five younger sisters, each of whom cherished her cheerful and outgoing nature. Bernie was known for her beautiful voice as a lead soprano in the choir at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church in Dorchester, where she sang hymns and Gregorian chants in Latin. Her love for music was a lifelong passion, and she also found great joy in dancing throughout her life.
Bernadette was predeceased by her beloved husband and dance partner, Frank Robert (Bobby) Anderson, in 2002. She is survived by her two sons, Christopher Anderson and his wife Tracey of Weymouth, and Carl Anderson and his wife Heather of Maine. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Colleen Dillon, Ben Anderson, Owen Anderson, Austin Anderson, and Sadie Anderson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bernie is also survived by her loving siblings and their spouses: Paul Kelley and his wife Joanne of North Port, FL; Peter Kelley of Sacramento, CA; Thomas Kelley and his wife Ginger of St. Petersburg, FL; Anna Kelley of Kingston, MA; Cecelia Kelley-Arter and her husband Philip Arter of Los Osos, CA; Patricia Kelley Morris of Hingham, MA; Kathleen Kelley Bonfilio of Marshfield, MA; JoAnne Woll and her husband Vinnie of Raleigh, NC; and Louise Carella-Kelley of Stuart, FL. She was predeceased by her brothers Frank Kelley and Patrick Kelley, and her sister Maureen Kelley Marlowe.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Southwood at Norwell Nursing Home for the loving care they provided to Bernadette during her final years. Bernie formed meaningful connections with the staff, who came to know her well and appreciate her sense of humor and love of coffee. Her anecdotes and warm spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
Bernadette's family invites all who knew her to join them in celebrating her life. A funeral Mass will be held Friday September 6 in St. Bridget Church, 455 Plymouth Street, Abington at 12pm. Interment will follow in the MA National Cemetery in Bourne at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Bernadette to: St. Jude or the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.
We will always carry your memory in our hearts.
