(Hazen) Henderson
November 15, 1948 – May 13, 2026
Betty H. (Hazen) Henderson, age 77, of Abington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 13 at South Shore Hospital.
Born in Winchester, Virginia on November 15, 1948, Betty was the daughter of the late Bartlett and Margaret Hazen. She was raised with a love of learning that continued throughout her life. Betty graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1970 and went on to dedicate many years to the Abington Public Schools, first as a substitute teacher and later as a paraprofessional, retiring in 2016.
A lifelong reader, Betty served as an Abington Library Trustee for more than 25 years and was especially proud to have been involved during the planning and building of the new library. She remained active in the library community through the monthly Popular Fiction Book Club. Betty was also a devoted member of the Anglican Parish of St. Paul in Brockton.
Betty enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe, especially visiting places rich in history. In retirement, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren, working on crossword and Sudoku puzzles, watching Jeopardy! and cheering on the Red Sox.
Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Alfred E. Henderson; her children, Scott Henderson, Melissa Henderson, and Elizabeth Botcheller and her husband John Paul; her grandchildren, Ella, Richard, and Thomas; and her sisters, Flo and Carol. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held at Quealy & Son Funeral Home 116 Adams Street Abington Tuesday May 19th from 4 PM to 7 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Paul's in Brockton 701 Pleasant Avenue Brockton. Interment to follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Betty's memory to the . Dana Farber Cancer Institute
