Charles Gray
Williams Jr.
October 13, 1946 – July 15, 2023
Charles G. Williams Jr. of Abington passed away on July 15 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Alabama on October 13, 1946, son of the late Reverend C.H.Williams and Marion (Black) Williams. Charlie grew up in York, AL and attended West End Elementary School and later graduated from York West End high school. Charlie enlisted in the United States Navy in December 1967. He served in the Vietnam war, a decorated veteran of the River Patrol Force. He reached the rank of Petty Officer Second Class in 1 ½ years. After serving in the Navy Charlie received a Bachelors degree from Boston College. He then went on to receive a Masters degree from Suffolk University.
Charlie worked in Engineering and Finance at Polaroid and Digital Equipment Corp. He then started his own business, Concord Martinizing Dry Cleaners, which he later sold. He switched careers to work for the US Postal Service, retiring as Post Master of the Brockton MA postal station.
After his retirement Charlie began cooking and was known for his awesome ribs and spending many hours trying to recreate his Momma Maddie's biscuits with sausage gravy. Charlie was a dedicated NY Yankees and Seattle Seahawks fan, even though he lived in Massachusetts. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Harmon Country Club. He was also known for his wild and crazy socks and the time he spent every day washing and waxing his beloved car.
Charlie is survived by his wife Maryann, his son Charles G. Williams III, brother Tom Williams, his special nephew John Mullen and his wife Pat, many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and Milo the family dog. Charlie was pre-deceased by his beloved sisters, Daisy Mullen, Rose Jones and Fannie Paige.
A visitation will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington on Thursday July 20 from 10 to 11 AM. A funeral home service will be held at 11AM. Interment to follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery
