Obituary

Debra A. (Blay) Farnham-Bartels of Springfield, age 58, passed away after a very brief and heroic struggle with cancer on February 16 in the Kindred Colony House, Abington. She was a loving and devoted mother to Carren D. Jones of Weymouth and Maegan I. Bartels of Nashville, TN.  In addition to her children, she is survived by her mother, Claire Ziarno of Palmer, her father, Joseph Blay and step-mother, Nancy Blay of North Adams; her brother, Joseph Blay, Jr. of Springfield and her sister, Annemarie Bartels of Enfield, CT.  In addition to her beloved nieces and nephews, Debbie is also survived by many foster daughters and foster grandchildren whom she adored and who loved her dearly.  She also leaves behind her grand-fur baby, a Shih Tzu named Izzy whom she adored more than all her family and friends and with good reason as Izzy is adorable and loved by her "gammy" dearly. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Blay and her step-father, Siegfried Ziarno. Debbie is leaving countless family members, foster girls and friends who held her in the highest love and admiration.  Her struggle was so brief that many did not have a chance to see her and say good-bye.  Please know that she was aware of all the well wishes and prayers sent her way and she knew she was loved right to the end. She will be interred at Bourne National Cemetery this Spring and arrangements for a memorial dinner to celebrate her life will be announced at a later date. Donations may be made in Debbie's honor to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or www.dana-farber.org/gift. Arrangements are by Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams St., Abington.
