Doreen (Gartatzoghian)
Serino
December 7, 1954 – October 8, 2025
Doreen Serino, 70, of Abington, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous year-long battle with brain cancer.
Born and raised in Worcester, Doreen was the daughter of the late Paul and Lorraine Gartatzoghian. From an early age, she embodied compassion and strength—qualities that defined both her personal and professional life.
Doreen dedicated her career to helping others. For over 40 years, she served as an ER nurse at Boston City Hospital—later Boston Medical Center—where her calm presence, quick wit, and boundless empathy left a lasting mark on countless patients and colleagues.
She and her husband, Richard Serino, shared 48 wonderful years together, building a life rooted in love, laughter, and family. They made their home in Abington, where Doreen was an active member of the community and a devoted supporter of the many activities her children were involved in.
One of Doreen's greatest joys was spending time with her beloved grandchildren. Whether reading stories together, baking cookies, or playing on the floor, she treasured every moment. Her love, warmth, and gentle humor will be forever felt in their hearts.
Doreen loved her summers on Cape Cod, traveling, and the simple joys of the beach—but it was the everyday moments that brought her the greatest happiness: time with family by the cove, mystery rides, and quiet evenings at home in Abington.
A lifelong animal lover, Doreen devoted her retirement to volunteering with Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue and other local organizations. She cherished her golden retrievers—especially Shannon, Colby, and Fenway—and could often be found walking with them or simply enjoying their company.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; her children, Jessica Kato and husband Kevin, and their children Isabelle and Jace of Ewa Beach, HI; Bryan Serino and wife Caroline, and their children Dylan and Sage of Sea Cliff, NY; and Peter Serino and wife Erin of Abington. She also leaves behind her sisters, Paula Markarian of Holden and Susan Bailey of Cohasset. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her kindness, humor, and unwavering love.
A visitation will be held at Quealy & Son Funeral Home 116 Adams Street Abington on Monday, October 13, from 4 PM to 7 PM A memorial service will take place Tuesday, October 14, at 11 AM at the funeral home, followed by a celebration of Doreen's life.
