Obituary

Dorothy A. Marquardt (Foley) passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 19, 1940, in Boston to Eileen Heider and Frank DeLang, Dorothy grew up in a close-knit family with her later brothers Paul and Robert Foley. She is survived by her sister Nancy Beck of California and cherished sister-in-law of Veronica Cross of Canton.

Dorothy was the devoted wife of the late Leonard W. Marquardt, a retired Boston Police Department SGT. Detective. Together, they began their family in Dorchester before moving to Abington in 1972, where they created a home filled with love and laughter.

Dorothy's legacy lives on through her eight children: Eileen M. Corlito and husband Paul; Cathleen O'Brien and husband Daniel; Stephen P. Marquardt (APD); Kevin R. Marquardt and his wife Anne; Michael T. Marquardt (District Fire Warden, Plymouth County); Laurie A. Marquardt; Jane V. Marquardt; and John P. Marquardt (HPD) and wife Cara. She was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren — Christopher & Marquita O'Brien; Sean (QPD) and wife Kerin, and Matthew O'Brien; Timothy O'Brien; Corina Delerme; Megan & Christien Tootell-Quevedo; Daniel Marquardt & his finace Rachel Clapp; Kelliann Marquardt; Noelle Marquardt; Brian Marquardt & Samantha Sullo; Jake & Colin Spellane; and Sydney, Baker, and Karsyn Marquardt. Dorothy's heart extended to her 8 great-grandchildren — Angel, Aubree, Lukas, Eoin, Jordyn, Romeo, Emelia, and Eleni Grace. Dorothy was also surived by many neices, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Dorothy was deeply involved in her community. She served as a lunch monitor and was active in the Teachers Association at St. Bridget's School, and she supported Abington Midget Football and her children's education at Cardinal Spellman High School and St. Coletta's Day School in Braintree. As the matriarch of her family, she was known for her devotion, kindness, and fierce loyalty.

Her home was always open for family gatherings during Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and Easter, where she shared her love of cooking and baking. Dorothy was an avid reader and a fan of the Hallmark Channel, enjoying the simple pleasures of travel, shopping trips with Auntie Barbara, and time with her close friends.

Dorothy's wit, strength, and kind heart made her a protective and self-sacrificing presence for her family. She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many lifelong friends.
