Elisabeth
Merry
March 22, 1936 – January 6, 2018
Elisabeth Merry leaves her husband, William A. Merry and her two children Virginia Ruth Ann Burke (Russ Burke) and William Randsome Allen Merry. She also leaves five brothers Bill, Wayne (Catherine), Allen (Beverly), Barry and Donald (Sheridan). She leaves also her sister, Audrey Smith. One brother, Jackie, preceded her in death. Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, the oldest of eight, she attended school until she began work to help her mom make ends meet at 14 years of age. She got her GED and continued some education and became an L.P.N. She helped her family make a start of life and after the death of her mother at age 25 she left for the Boston area to care for several children who had contracted polio in the early 60s. In 1970 she married and later had her two children. She continued working part time raising her family including bus driving, health field at Sachem Nursing Home and various other heath jobs and child care and was active in politics and our local community. She was also an active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Hanson for nearly 4 decades! She enjoyed many preaching services and special workshops and ladies meetings there. She took life on with gusto! She was spicy and full of life while she did what she could to encourage the downtrodden and speak life to several women who were headed for abortions who had a change of mind! She was a dedicated wife and mother and put them before herself. You knew she was a Christian and she would many times finish up a conversation with a Bible verse. At the Colony Nursing home they remember her fondly shouting "Girls, Girls! Come over here! They became her secondary family caring for her and meeting her needs while her daughter kept the family together for visits and calls throughout difficult years. "I know whom I have believed" was a favorite hymn and John 3:16 her favorite verse in the Bible.
