Obituary

Ellen Koch Piscatelli was a mother, sister, friend, educator and life-long learner. She passed away on January 31, 2022, from cancer. She was 67. She spent more than 40 years in San Diego, California, but Massachusetts was her true home. She was born in Quincy to Paul Koch and Marie Koch Beltis and grew up in Braintree with sister Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Koch and Paul "Skippy" Koch Jr. She was in band at Braintree High School and went on to study education at Bridgewater State College where she met her late husband, Ron Piscatelli. Ellen and Ron moved to San Diego in the '70s where they set their roots, got married and raised their daughters, Pia and Alex. In her final months, Ellen and her daughters moved back East so she could be back home. She passed away in Hingham. If you asked Ellen, her proudest accomplishment would be her daughters. When Ron passed away in 2013, she said, "More than anything I want to thank you for two incredible and beautiful girls. There are not enough words to describe how special they are. That was another thing that you were right about, your kids are the most important legacy of your life." Ellen volunteered at her daughters' schools, attended all their extracurricular activities, and supported each and every one of their creative and professional endeavors along the way. She was and is the most dedicated mother. Those who know Ellen know her for her caring nature, her strength, her ability to listen and love. She loved reading, walking and chocolate ice cream. She lit up while being around children and was always smiling. Her impact was greater than she knew, and she will be very missed. Her family will hold a memorial over Zoom on Saturday, March 5 at 5 p.m. EST. If you would like to attend, please email her daughter Alex at aepiscatelli@gmail.com. Send any photos you would like to share, and please let her know if you would like to speak.
