Evan J.
Madigan
October 19, 1987 – July 28, 2025
Evan J. Madigan, 37, of Brockton, formerly of Abington, passed away at home on July 28th 2025, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Born in Brockton, MA, on October 19, Evan was the beloved husband of Jayna (Lloyd) Madigan. Evan was a loving husband, son, brother and friend.
He is survived by his father Patrick Madigan Jr. and stepmother Anna Madigan of Bridgewater. Evan was the devoted brother of Patrick Madigan III and his wife Jessica Madigan of Hampden, ME, and the cherished uncle of Evan, Patrick IV, Kellen, and Nora Madigan, also of Hampden, ME. He was predeceased by his mother, Janet (Nickley) Madigan.
Evan was the loving nephew of Kathie Madigan of Marco Island, FL; Thomas and Allison Madigan of Taunton, MA; Sean and Lynn Madigan of Brockton, MA; Deacon Joseph and Rhonda Nickley of Abington, MA; John and Jeanne Nickley of Abington, MA; Michael and Judy Nickley of Norwood, MA; Stephen and Geraldine Capachione of Whitman, MA; and Richard and Lynne Nickley of Abington, MA. He is also survived by many cousins.
Evan attended Cardinal Spellman and grew up performing on stage there. Later in life would help with set design for the theater program working with his dad who works as the technical director there. He took great pride in and helped build their sets every year.
If you ever heard cackling in the dark or saw fog rolling in out of nowhere, chances are Evan was nearby — either pulling off a terrifying scare or just testing a new fog machine. For 12 glorious, chaotic, glitter-and-sawdust-filled years, Evan lived his dream working at Barrett's Haunted Mansion in Abington. He wasn't just on the Scream Team — he was the Scream Team: set designer, construction manager, prop wizard, makeup magician, and full-time maniac. His alter ego Barnaby wasn't just a character; he was a whole vibe, complete with meticulously crafted costumes and enough fake blood to flood the South Shore.
Halloween wasn't a holiday to Evan — it was a personality trait. And if you said "Disney-level quality" near him, he'd say, "Challenge accepted," then disappear for 12 hours and return with something that probably glowed, moved, and smelled faintly of latex and burnt rubber.
When Evan wasn't busy scaring the life out of people, he was probably crashing a car — on purpose. He lived for the Marshfield Fair Demolition Derby, where he'd gleefully smash things in the name of glory and walked away a two-time champion (and four-time sore loser when he didn't win).
He was also a fish fanatic, a die-hard supporter of local artists, and an absolute menace when it came to "just going to check out one thing at Lowes." You'd blink, and he'd built a haunted castle in your backyard.
Evan was the Instigator of Fun, the Sultan of Shenanigans, the kid who never really grew up — and thank God for that. The world was better, weirder, and far more entertaining with him in it.
Evan became sober over 6 years ago and he always inspired and helped others along their sober journey. Evan will be missed by his family, close friends, the entire haunt industry and all of his fans.
Above all else, Evan will be missed deeply by his beloved dogs, Chicken and Nugget, who adored him as much as he adored them, who were just as dramatic and probably planning their own tribute.
To know Evan was to love him. His absence leaves a hole that can never be filled, but his spirit — larger than life, unapologetically creative, and full of heart — will live on in everyone who was lucky enough to know him.
A visitation will be held at Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington, on Thursday, August 7, from 4 PM to 7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bridget's Church on Friday, August 8, at 10:30 AM.
