Francis L. Hutchinson, "Papa Fran" age 87, of Abington, MA, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Brockton Hospital.

Born on June 14, 1938, in Weymouth, he was the son of the late Helen (Hunt) Hutchinson and William Hutchinson.

Fran was predeceased by his beloved wife, Diane (Contois) Hutchinson, and by his two children, Leonard Hutchinson and Laura (Hutchinson) Sandner.

Fran and Diane were teenage sweethearts they  were married in 1958. A skilled carpenter, Fran installed kitchens and used those skills to build their family home, where together they raised their children.

Fran enjoyed playing his lottery numbers and cheering on his favorite sports teams—the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots. He also loved watching The Andy Griffith Show, Gunsmoke, and Ridiculousness.

Most importantly, Fran cherished the time spent with his great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Sandner. She was the apple of his eye and his best friend. He never missed a dance recital or skating competition and treasured every moment with her—whether meeting her at the bus stop, playing dress-up, or teaching her how to cook. For Ava, he always made sure Wednesday night ziti and meatballs were on the table, a special tradition just for her.

Fran is survived by his brother, Floyd Hutchinson of Weymouth; his grandchildren, Jonathan Sandner and his girlfriend Crystal Johnson of Minnesota, Anthony Sandner and his wife Kristina of Abington, and Christina Sandner and her boyfriend Chris Marino of Swansea; his great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Sandner of Abington; as well as many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends who loved him dearly.

Visitation will be held at Quealy & Son Funeral Home 116 Adams Street Abington on Saturday September 6 from 11 AM to 1 PM. Followed by a Funeral Home Service at 1 PM.
