Obituary

Gerald F. Corcoran, 80, of Abington beloved husband of the late Dot Corcoran died Saturday Nov. 8, after a brief battle with cancer. Jerry was a long-time resident of Abington and spent 37 years in the Abington School system as a high school teacher, a golf coach, a soccer coach, director of library services, summer school director, night school director, and advisor to numerous other school activities. After retiring, he was actively involved in town government and served in various town government positions including two terms on the Board of Selectmen. His retirement years were also spent running Jerry C's Greenery from his self-built greenhouse which included a hand-made koi fish pond. Jerry was very fond of animals and entertained many visitors to see his pet goats and geese. He was an enthusiastic participant of the annual Abington St. Patrick's Day parade.

Jerry was the father of five sons including Gerald F. Corcoran Jr. of Abington, the late Shaun P. Corcoran, Mark J. Corcoran of Lawrenceville, NJ, Michael J. Corcoran and his wife Julie of Walpole and Timothy J. Corcoran and his wife Fran of Pembroke. Papa Jerry is also survived by eight Corcoran grandchildren, Shane, Kerry, Christopher, Erin, Maggie, Macaulay, Samantha and Griffin. Jerry was the younger Brother of the late Barbara Leahy of Quincy, Ma and James Corcoran of Berwyn, Pa and is survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 AM Thursday, November 13th at St. Bridget's Church in Abington. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery. Visiting will be Wednesday 4:00-8:00 at Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street in Abington. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Gerald's memory to the Jeffrey Coombs Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 463 Abington, MA 02351.
