Obituary

Gerald A. "Jerry" Ranous, age 73, of Plymouth, formerly of Abington, passed away on August 5, 2014. At the time of his death, Jerry was attending the 74th Annual Sturgis, South Dakota Motorcycle Rally. Jerry was raised in Scottsville, NY and was the son of the late William Ranous and the late June (Miller) Ranous. Married for 51 years to his beloved wife, Jacqueline (Maddocks) he was the devoted father of Melinda "Mindy" Ranous of Abington, James "Jimmy" and his wife, Kerri (Lambert) Ranous of Abington. He was the adoring and devoted grandfather of Cameron, Nicholas and Jacob Ranous of Abington. According to Jerry there was never a better day than those spent with his grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Harold and wife, Margaret, his brother John, his sisters Nancy Krenzer and Shirley MacMillan, the late David and William Ranous. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, a large community of friends in Abington, Plymouth and Englewood, Florida. Jerry was a 6 year veteran of the US Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from Polaroid after 30 years. In addition to spending time with his children, grandchildren and many friends, Jerry enjoyed fishing, golfing, wintering in Florida and riding his 2005 Harley Davidson. Jerry was a long term member of the Masons at John Cutler Lodge, A.F. & A.M. in Abington and Bay State Commander No. 38 Knights Templar in Brockton. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Celebration of Life on Friday, August 15 from 4-8 PM in the Holiday Inn, 929 Hingham St., Rockland. There will be a Memorial Service at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's memory can be made for wounded warriors and their families at the USO, c/o Operation Enduring Care, P.O. Box 96860, Washington, DC, 20077-7677.
