Before establishing his business, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964 during the Vietnam War. A lifelong patriot, he became an active member of the Abington American Legion Post #112, serving in the color guard and building lifelong friendships within the organization.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, MaryAnn N (Mouncey) Counter, his daughter Karen & Raymond Hunt of Whitman, MA and their two children, Matthew & Jenna and his great-grandson, Elijah. Jim was the stepfather to Edward E Lyons & his wife, Daryl of Cape Coral, Fl and John J Lyons & his wife, Lynne of Orlando, FL.
Jim was the father to his four daughters, Kathleen & Christopher of Morgantown, WV & their three children; Michelle Tordoff of Hanson, MA & her two children; Laura Counter of Hanson, MA & her two children; Susan & Guy Zibi of Maynard, MA and their two children
Jim also leaves behind his four siblings: Gloria Walker of VT; Fred Counter and his wife Christine of FL; Mary Brown-Counter and her husband "Buzz" of VA; and George Counter and his wife Deborah of VA.
A proud veteran and dedicated family man, Jim found joy in attending events at the American Legion, particularly their beloved chicken bakes. A lifelong Red Sox fan, Jim never missed a game, often watching with his loyal companion, his cat Sammy, who predeceased him and whom he missed dearly.
Jim will be remembered for his service to his community, his unwavering love for his family, and his humor and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
