Jean Ernst Dautruche, age 76, of Brockton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on March 3, 1949, in Léogâne, Haiti, Jean was the first son of the late Stenio and Arilia Dautruche. Known to many as Tines, he held an inquisitive mind and an enduring love of learning. Jean pursued advanced studies in French Literature and became a respected professor at several colleges in Port-au-Prince. He valued meaningful conversations, classical music, and engaging others with intellect, warmth, and humor.

Jean built a life shaped by skill, creativity, and hard work. As a tailor, master craftsman, and entrepreneur, he approached his work with intention and pride. Through his business, Ernst Slipcovers, he created custom upholstery and handcrafted pieces that reflected patience and precision in every stitch. Jean found satisfaction in producing high-quality items that were artful and made to last.

Jean had a memorable wit and an effortless way of making people feel connected and valued. Intelligent, dependable, and principled, he freely gave his time, talents, and care, motivated by love and anchored in a deep commitment to family and friends.

Jean is survived by his devoted caregiver and wife of 46 years, Rosemene Germain; his beloved children, Nathalie, Vanessa, Jessica, Garvens, and Reginald; his cherished grandchildren, Jayden, Jordan, and Veronica; his dear siblings, Edouard, Marie-Lourdes, Mario, Micheline, Mimose, Nanotte, and Olivia; and many treasured nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

After bravely facing several illnesses, Jean is now at rest and leaves behind a legacy of learning, perseverance, excellence, and generosity. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 10:30 a.m. at Quealy and Son Funeral Home.
