Obituary

John Patrick Devlin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, at the age of 94. He was surrounded by his loving family.  Born to the late Patrick and Mary (Carey) Devlin, he was raised in South Boston and resided in Abington and Weymouth after retirement.  He enlisted in the US Navy and served on the US Lionfish submarine during the Korean War.  He kept in touch with his fellow submariners through yearly reunions for many years.  He then worked as an electrician and was exceedingly generous with his time and talents.

John's greatest pride and joy was his family.  He was a devoted husband to Carol (Shea) Devlin, with whom he shared 68 wonderful years of marriage. He is survived by his son John and  wife Vivi of Abington; his daughter Marianne and husband Kevin Gilligan of Abington; his son Michael and wife Jane of Plympton; and his son Patrick and wife Cindy of Whitman. John also leaves behind 11 cherished grandchildren, 10 cherished great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

John's legacy is one of love, laughter and quiet strength, which his family and friends benefited from immensely. Visitation will be held at Quealy and Son Funeral Home 116 Adams Street, Abington on Monday, August 18 from 11 AM to 12:30 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Bridget Church on Monday, August 18 at 1 PM.  Internment to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
