John L. Kelly, Jr.
Abington – John L. Kelly, Jr., 85, of Abington, WWII Army Veteran, died peacefully June 29, 2011, at home with family at his bedside, after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth R. (Christie) Kelly for more than 62 years.
Born in Boston, February 15, 1926, he lived in Quincy, Weymouth before moving to Abington in 1961.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he received immense pleasure from spending time with family, enjoyed many outside activities including spending time by his pool and was an avid sports fan.
He also was an accomplished skier and had a great love of ballroom dancing. Mr. Kelly was a member of Union Local 6, Pipe Coverers.
He is survived by 10 children, Jeanne Kelly of Abington, Joan Holzman and her husband Arthur of Hanson, Janet Boyle of Abington, John Kelly and his wife Mary of Whitman, James Kelly and his wife Mary Lou of South Yarmouth, Joyce Bailey and her husband Daniel of Abington, Joseph Kelly and his wife Katherine of Bridgewater, Jane Larkin and her husband Paul of East Bridgewater, Jerome Kelly and his wife Cheryl Anne of Taunton and Jacquelyn Stanbrook and her husband John of Halifax. He is also survived by 31 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; sister Elizabeth Sulmonte of Abington, brother's Al of Weymouth, Leo of Florida, Phillip of Stoughton and Robert of Braintree, brother-in-law, sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was the loving son of the late John L. and Elizabeth Kelly of Quincy and brother of the late David, Joseph and Peter all of Weymouth.
Funeral from the Quealy and Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington, Wednesday, July 6 at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Bridget's Church, Abington, 9 a.m. Visitation Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery, Rockland.
