John Swanson, of Port Charlotte, FL. Formerly of Abington, passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 14, 2024, after a long and joyful life spent with his beloved bride, Patricia, with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage. John learned building trades early in life, working for years alongside his father, Oscar. Following in his father's footsteps, he built his own family home in Abington, where he created lasting memories. His father, Oscar, had immigrated from Sweden, and John held his Swedish heritage close to his heart, taking great pride in his roots. One of his cherished memories was traveling to Sweden with his son and grandson to visit his father's family and homeland. John and Patricia enjoyed traveling together, whether it was to Florida, Nova Scotia, or on cruises. John loved annual family trips to Nova Scotia visiting family, eating lobster and fishing.  In recent years, John relocated to Port Charlotte, FL, where he made many close friends and enjoyed the warm community.  He found great pleasure feeding and caring for the many birds in the park aviary 2 days a week. A proud USAF veteran, John later dedicated almost 40 years of service as a cryptography technician at Western Union. His legacy lives on in his family, including his son, David (wife Michielle, deceased); daughter, Karen (husband Brian Murray); six grandchildren Matthew, Emily, Nora, Daniel, Joshua and Jenna; and his sister, Claire Selbert (husband Mark), and brothers (Richard and Kenneth, both deceased). He also leaves many nieces and hephews, and his cousins Margareta (and family) in Sweden, and Barbara and Suzanne of Weymouth, and Joyce of California, who remained dear to his heart. John will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Graveside service will be held on Saturday August 24, at 11 AM at Elmwood Cemetery, 188 East Street, East Bridgerwater, MA.
