Obituary

Joseph F. Pishkin 81, of Abington, husband of Karen (Pappas) for 52 wonderful years, retired detective for the Boston Police Department, passed away peacefully at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth surrounded by loving family on October 16, 2023.

Joseph was born in Dorchester,MA on December 9, 1941 to the late Joseph and Anne Pishkin (Roche). Joseph graduated from Dorchester high school in 1960 where he was a member of the ROTC program. Upon graduating high school, Joseph joined the United States Airforce as a military police officer. He was assigned to the 3909th Combat Defense Squadron out of McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, having served for four years between 1960-1964.

After being honorably discharged, Joseph came home to Boston and joined the Boston Police Department where he served for 39 years, with his last 10 years of service as a detective. Joseph was also a member of the Boston Police Relief Association, and served as president for 1 year.  In retirement, Joseph's favorite pastimes and hobbies included time with his two grandchildren and family, as well as following the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

Joseph leaves behind his wife of 52 years Karen, his son Kevin and Kara (LePine); and his grandchildren Brandon and Mercedes. He was preceded by his brothers James and Walter Pishkin, and sister Anne "Nancy" (Preskenis). He is survived by his brothers  Richard, Robert (and Jean), Edward (and Lina) Pishkin, and Robert Preskenis; his sisters Audrey (and Brian) Hughes, Regina Luongo, Jeanette (and the late Jerry) MacNeil, and Barbara Pishkin; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington on Sunday October 22 from 4pm to 7pm. Funeral Mass Monday at St. Bridget Church, Abington 10:30am. Interment Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Abington.
