Joseph F. Sciara, 93, Chief Petty Officer (BMC) US Navy retired, died Sunday, March 18 at Southwood Rehabilitation and Nursing facility after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Victoria M. (Dombrowski) Sciara. Born in Hammond, LA and educated in Kansas City, MO, he had been a resident of Abington for many years. He served in the US Navy for 22 years and was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War. After he returned from the Navy, Mr. Sciara continued his federal service as a Fire Captain with the US Department of Army in Boston. A member of the Abington VFW, American Legion and Fleet Association and a communicant of St. Bridget Church in Abington.
Mr. Sciara is survived by a son, John F. Sciara of Scituate and a daughter, Mary A. Sciara of Marblehead, along with 5 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington, Wednesday, March 21 at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Bridget Church, Abington, at 9 a.m. Visitation Tuesday, 4-7 p.m. Interment St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland.
