Joyce McCarthy-Johnson (née Peck) of Whitman, 69 years of age, passed away after a brief hospitalization Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Brockton Hospital, surrounded by family. A free spirit who enjoyed nature and had a caring heart, many will remember Joyce during her time working at the West Acres Nursing home in Brockton, as an EMT at the Goddard Memorial Hospital in Brockton and as a board member of the Fox Chase Condo Association in Palm Harbor, FL.

Born May 3, 1948 in Attleboro, Joyce was the beloved daughter of the late Ruth (Lougee) and the late Howard Peck, also later her adoptive father, the late Edward Haygarth. She was the wife of the late Frederick McCarthy of Whitman and later, the late Clifford Johnson of Palm Harbor, FL. She was the devoted sister to the late Janice (Haygarth) Kelley of Quincy, Walter Haygarth of Azusa,CA and the late Carol Haygarth of Whitman. She is survived by her three children: Rick McCarthy and his wife Maureen of Bridgewater, Carol (McCarthy) Cheverie of Gilford, NH, and Matthew Johnson of Rockland. She is also survived by her grandchildren Chelsea (Cheverie) Smith and husband Dan Smith of Wolfeboro NH, Jacob and Daniel Cheverie of Laconia NH, Abigail, Emily and Rebekah McCarthy of Bridgewater as well as one niece, many cousins and friends.

Per family request, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested donations be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
