June M.
Buckley
June 16, 1933 – July 22, 2024
June M. Buckley, of Abington passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024, after a brief illness. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her kindness, humility and selflessness, her warm smile and her infectious laugh.
Born on June 16, 1933, in Dorchester, Mass., June was the daughter of Edward J. and Margaret T. (Quinn) Denon. The second of four children, she was raised in Dorchester and attended St. Ann Elementary School and St. Ann High School before earning her license to practice as a dental hygienist.
June married William M. Buckley, the love of her life, on June 27, 1953. Soon after, they moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where she and Bill started their family while he served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Jackson.
June and Bill returned to Dorchester in 1955, and moved to Abington with their growing family in 1960. They were inseparable through 70 years of marriage. Together, they raised six children. As their family grew, June and Bill enjoyed time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, working around their home and yard, family vacations in Bridgton, Maine, traveling, the beach and day trips. June also enjoyed ballet, a passion carried forward from her youth, walking and swimming. She and Bill were longtime members of St. Bridget Parish in Abington, and in their later years, of Holy Family Church in Rockland. June's husband, Bill, her family and her faith were the cornerstones of her life.
After raising her children, June worked at Stonehill College, providing administrative support to faculty and staff for 25 years. In 1999, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, Stonehill presented June with its Moreau Medallion, an honor bestowed on 50 individuals who made important contributions to the college's growth and development during its first half century.
June was predeceased by her husband Bill, a beloved son, Joseph Patrick Buckley, her parents, her brother, Edward Denon, and sister, Denise (Denon) Collins.
June is survived by six children and their spouses: Carolyn (Gerard) Kates of Norton, Mass.; William (Mary) Buckley of Holmdel, New Jersey; David (Denise) Buckley of Boxford, Mass.; Michael (Bonnie) Buckley of Leominster, Mass.; Richard (Susan) Buckley of Rockland, Mass.; and Paul (Brenda) Buckley of Shrewsbury, Mass. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Sheila Stross of Loudonville, New York. She will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at The Residence at Great Woods in Norton, Mass., for their kindness, care and hospitality in recent months, as well as the staff at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Mass., and the team at Southwood at Norwell for the support and care provided to June and her loved ones.
A visitation will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington, Mass. on Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 455 Plymouth Street, Abington.
