Obituary

Lawrence P. Griffin, 89, died peacefully after a year's illness at Renaissance Gardens @ Linden Ponds, Hingham, on Friday, June 8, 2012. Larry was the son of the late Lawrence of Abington and Annie (Ward) Griffin of Ireland. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Milewski) Griffin for 64 years and a lifelong resident of Abington and graduate of Abington High School.  He was a communicant of St. Bridget's Church and charter member of the Abington Knights of Columbus. In his younger years, Larry was known by his ability and strength as a football player in high school, the Abington Town Football Team and the Brockton Pros. He was a member of the 72's Club in Abington. Besides his family, the main activity of Larry's life was the family business, Griffin's Dairy of which he was the president.  After the sale of the Griffin dairy land to the Town of Abington, Larry stayed very active managing his real estate interests until he suffered a stroke at age 88. Larry is survived by his wife, two sons:  Lawrence of Loveland, CO and Thomas and his wife, Lynne of Scituate;  two daughters:  Gail and her husband, Kenneth Malone of Laconia, NH and Jean Pendoley of Middleboro.  Brother of James of Plympton, Vincent and Esther of Abington, the late Tessie and Mary Griffin.  He dearly loved his eight grandchildren:  Jeffrey, Joanna and Daniel Malone,  Laura Griffin, Angela and Scott Pendoley,  Caitlin and Stephen Griffin;  a great-grand-daughter, Melaina Brown. Funeral from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington, Tuesday, June 12 at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Bridget Church at 9 a.m. Visitation Monday, 4-8 p.m. Interment St. Patrick Cemetery.
