Obituary

Linda Jane Merritt, 70, of Rockland, MA, passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 8, 1954, in Brockton, MA, she was the beloved daughter of Jennie Larkin (Curtis) and Charles D. Merritt.

Linda was a devoted wife to Kenneth J. Thomson for 38 wonderful years, a loving mother to her children, and a cherished grandmother. She graduated from Rockland High School in 1972 and pursued higher education at Daytona Beach Community College, Massasoit Community College, and the University of Massachusetts in Boston. An entrepreneur and talented seamstress, Linda ran her own custom window treatment business while raising her four children with love and creativity.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Tim Le and wife Kelly, Alyson Le Phipps and husband Mark, Morgan Thomson, Lindsay Zenewicz and husband John, her bonus son Christopher Collins and wife Kelly, and her reunited son Stanley Shura. Linda adored her grandchildren: Kayden and Van Le, Elizabeth (Ellie) and Rayna Phipps, and Riley Dougan, Owen, and CJ Collins. Her close nieces and nephews, who grew up alongside her as siblings, along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, also held a special place in her heart.

Linda is predeceased by her sister Patricia Merritt and husband Al, and her brother Allan C. Merritt. She is survived by her siblings Charles (Butch) Merritt II and wife Maria, Dorothy (Dotty) Kempton, Mary Lou Tanner and husband David, and Jeffrey Merritt and wife Carol.

Linda's life was filled with vibrant moments and cherished memories. She was proud of her time playing bugle in the Drum and Bugle Corps for the Holy Family Defenders and the Pembroke Imperials. She treasured spending time with her high school friends—Carol, Beverly, Cathy, Diane, Jackie, Janet, Mary, Mikki, and Peggy—and reminiscing about their youthful days at Paragon Park.

A true Queen of D.I.Y., Linda's creativity and skill were unmatched. She had a keen eye for design and interior decorating, crafting costumes, clothes, and Christmas stockings, as well as orchestrating epic Easter basket scavenger hunts for her kids. She was an incredible cook, resourceful gardener, and a dedicated dahlia grower, who found joy in nurturing life both in her garden and in her family. Her love of the beach, margaritas by the pool, and doting on her grandchildren brought her endless happiness.

Linda's warmth, humor, and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her vibrant spirit and unwavering love for her family and friends
