Obituary

On May 5th, 2024, Margaret "Peggy" Ann (Wetzel) Clough of Whitman, Massachusetts passed away at the age of 71 after a long battle with chronic health difficulties.

Peggy spent her final moments in her loving husband Jack's embrace with their children Heather, Eric and Nicole by her side. Whether or not you believe there is a better place, Peggy hated that cliche saying. There is no place that she would rather be than here with her family.

Peggy was born Margaret Ann Wetzel to the late Phyllis and Edwin Wetzel on December 2nd, 1952 in Boston. She was raised in Braintree, Massachusetts and graduated Braintree High School in 1970.  Peggy married John "Jack" Clough on October 1st, 1982, sharing a first dance to 'Lady' by Kenny Rogers.

On Halloween in 1981, Jack was at a party thrown by friends when he laid his eyes on a stunning woman with radiant blue eyes and a fruit basket on her head. Peggy was dressed as 'Carmen Miranda.' That night, Jack's sister Linda introduced him to Peggy, and they spent most of the evening talking. Love at first sight is real, at least for them.

Peggy and Jack welcomed three beautiful children - Heather, Eric and Nicole in. The term 'mama bear' was an apt description - Peggy was fiercely protective of her children, and advocated for them with her whole heart.

In 2007, Peggy acquired a new title - Nana, when Heather blessed her with her grandson Connor. As with her own children, Peggy loved, taught and protected Connor. Connor and his Nana shared an incredible bond, and she connected with him in a way no one else could.

In the early hours of May 5th, Peggy was reunited with her beloved sisters Phyllis Devlin and Barbara Eveline, after an achingly long time apart. Peggy was also predeceased by her parents Edwin and Phyllis Wetzel and a list of relatives and friends far too long to list here

Peggy leaves behind her husband of 42 years, John Clough, her three children Heather, Eric, Nicole and her fiancé Josh Dorris, and her grandson Connor. Peggy is survived by Max, who despite being Eric's very stubborn dog, chose Peggy as his person. Peggy is also survived by her sister Korena Hooper and her husband Willie of Nova Scotia, and her brother Marty Wetzel and his wife Elaine of Braintree along with a plethora of nieces and nephews.

Please join us in a celebration of Peggy's life on Thursday, May 9th, 2024 from 4-7pm  at Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington. Funeral home service to follow. Peggy's wish was for everyone to come together, share memories and celebrate - not for it to be a sad event. Please dress casually.
