Obituary

Margaret M. "Maggie" Hayes of Brockton, MA, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 8, 1963, in Boston, she was the cherished daughter of the late Edward Gottschalk and Judith Macomber.

On June 18, 1993, Maggie married the love of her life, John A. Hayes, in Brockton. Together, they built a beautiful life, filled with family, friends, and service to their community.

Maggie is survived by her beloved husband, John Anthony Hayes of Brockton; her children, Matthew Stevenson and his wife Erica of Norwood, Michael Stevenson and his significant other Sarah Dyer of Bridgewater, and Stephen Hayes and his significant other Ashley McQuiggan of Brockton. She was a proud and devoted "Meema" to her grandchildren: Matthew, Stephen Jr., Payton, Rylie, Daniel, Sean, Brenden, and Madison.

She leaves behind her dear sister, Cheri Nersessian of Easton and brother Dale Hodgkins of Brockton, and will be deeply missed by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Maggie had a vibrant personality and a heart full of love. She found joy in the simplest pleasures, whether shopping, watching movies, singing along to her favorite country songs, or enjoying the pampering of a fresh manicure. Above all, her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family and friends.

A dedicated volunteer, Maggie had a passion for giving back to her community. Her contributions to the City of Brockton included feeding the homeless, organizing community clean-ups, planning family activities, and serving as the treasurer of the Edgar Park Neighborhood Association. Her selfless efforts left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

The Hayes and Stevenson family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations to assist with funeral expenses can be made through the Quealy & Son website.

Maggie's legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.
