Marilyn
Mcgrath
September 4, 1951 – October 3, 2024
Marilyn "Mal" McGrath (McCormack) of Whitman, formerly of Braintree, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 3, 2024, at the Ruth McLain Hospice House in Braintree. She was born on September 4, 1951, to the late Arlene (Gerrior) and James McCormack.
A proud graduate of Braintree High School, class of 1969, Mal dedicated her life to her family. She was the loving mother of Shane Shannon (McGrath) and cherished her role as a grandmother to William "T" and James "Jim" Shannon, who brought her immense joy and pride.
Mal is survived by her daughter Shane and her husband Tommy Shannon, as well as her beloved grandchildren. She was a devoted sister to Joanne and her late husband Bill Murphy, James and his wife Shirley McCormack, Donald McCormack, Kevin and his wife Heather McCormack, and Karen and her husband Mike Agnew. Additionally, she leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Marilyn was married to Mike McGrath Shane's father for ten years. Although they where no longer together they still cared for one another.
After being a stay-at-home mom until Shane reached junior high, Mal began her career as a secretary at the Weymouth Naval Air Base until its closure. She then continued to work for the United States Navy in South Boston, until retiring in 2005.
Mal found joy in simple pleasures—playing games and cards with her grandsons, indulging in word search books, and appreciating the beauty of sunsets and blue skies. Her warm spirit and loving nature touched everyone who knew her. Marilyn was one of the most loving people in life she was always there for everyone and would do anything for anyone at any time.
She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
Marilyn's family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at the Ruth McLain Hospice House who provided such amazing to not just Marilyn but our family as well. The care provided for her was amazing and Mal loved all of them as well.
