Marvin L.
Hoskins
April 24, 1955 – May 15, 2025
Marvin Lee Hoskins was born on April 24, 1955 in Oakfield, GA. Marvin went to his eternal home on May 15, 2025 in Boston, MA due to complications from Multiple Myeloma Cancer.
Marvin fought hard for the last year to remain on this earth, but unfortunately, this was a battle he could not win.
Marvin was the beloved son of the late Elnora Robertson and Joseph Henry Hoskins.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife for 46 years, Mariellen Jordan of Boston, MA. Loving daughters: Michelle Jordan, Latrice Hoskins, Tanja Johnson, and daughter-in-law Lauren Crudup-Jordan. Grandchildren: Staci Cameron, Stephani Cameron, Icarra Hoskins, Saddiq Johnson, D'anna King, Sade Johnson, Erin Crudup, Brianna Crudup, and Aimee Crudup. Great grandchildren: Maddison, Jordan, the latest addition Ella-Marie, Jeuel, Kaelyn, Kameron and Ruby-Evelyn. Brothers: James Rouse of FL, the late Rev Joseph Hoskins of GA., brother and best friend Bobby Hoskins, the late Rickey Robertson, and William aka (Billy) Robertson all of Boston, MA. Sisters: Deborah Robertson, Angela Robertson, and the late Ada Robertson all of Boston, MA. and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Marvin moved to Boston, MA. a few years after High school to pursue better work opportunities.
In November of 1977, Marvin entered the US Military where he was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood Missouri and served as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic (WVM). As a WVM, Marvin performed field level maintenance and repairs on tanks, cargo trucks, helicopters in addition to other army vehicles. When he returned from the military, Marvin worked various jobs including repairing cars for family and friends until he found his passion in house painting. Mastering professional painting techniques, Marvin went on to start his own painting company and named it "Marvin's Painting Company" and hired his brothers Bobby and Ricky making it a family business. Marvin's outgoing and fun-loving character traits allowed him to make numerous long lasting friendships with his customers throughout his painting business. He continued his passion of painting until his health issues forced him to stop.
Marvo, daddy, and grandpa as he was affectionately known as, found joy in being with his family and friends. Marvin couldn't go anywhere in Boston without coming across somebody he knew or who knew him. When he went out he would speak to everyone he came across paths with. He was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was marked by LOVE, COMPASSION and LAUGH OUT LOUD (LOL) moments. As a Self Proclaimed grill Master, "Grill Master Marvin" would take every opportunity to cook on the grill no matter what the weather was like outside. If it was raining outside, he would put up a tarp and continue to grill, if it was cold outside he would just bundle up (with shorts on) and continue to grill. Nothing kept him away from grilling when he set his mind to it.
Marvin was also notorious for adding syllables to and messing up people's names. For example, he would combine his two nieces' names, Shatara and Tootie making it "Shatootie". He would also add "ola" behind people's names. Another example was him calling his daughter Michelle"Michelleola". He would also just call people a totally different name but none of that mattered because we all knew it was just Marvo, daddy or grandpa's way/language and we embraced it because that was one of many things that made him unique. Something he always said to people was "well hello dear…" and that saying/phrase will always be missed.
Marvin's passing has left a void that can never be filled in the hearts of his family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way he lived and for the profound impact he had on your life. When you think of Marvin, celebrate the good memories you have of him. Although Marvin's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit continues to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing and carry his legacy of Love, Compassion and Laughter in all that you do.
Remember that life is fragile and short and should be lived to the fullest. He will be missed more than any words could express but he will be forever in our hearts till we meet him again. As we continue to honor him, while moving forward with our lives- let his big, beautiful smile forever shine bright in your heart whenever you think of him.
