Obituary

Mary Beryl Sibert (nee White) passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026.

Mary was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1931 to Hugh G. White and Mary Beryl Abbott White. She and her beloved older brother, Sonny, were raised in Midland Texas and she graduated from The Hockaday School in Dallas. She met and married Robert P. Sibert and moved to Long Island, NY where together they raised 4 children, Mike, Barby, Wendy and Rob.

Mary was an unforgettable spirit who devoted herself to family and friends. She was very involved in the Cold Spring Harbor, NY community where she and Bob were members of the Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club, The Huntington Country Club, Point O'Woods, and Cove Neck Tennis Club. She received her Bachelors degree in Art History from C.W. Post, Long Island University. She and Bob spent 2 years living in Colchester, England, UK where she received her Masters degree in Art History from the University of Essex. They returned to Cold Spring Harbor where she went on to serve as an adjunct professor of Art History at her alma mater, C.W. Post and volunteered at The Metropolitan Museum in New York.

After her husband's passing in 2014 Mary moved to Needham MA to live near her daughters. For 11 years she created a new and joyful life at North Hill Senior Living.

Mary leaves her 4 children and their families, Michael (Patricia) Sibert of Naples FL, Barbara (Mark) Vonnegut of Milton MA, Wendy (David) Secor of Wellesley MA, and Robert Sibert of Ft. Myers FL. In addition she leaves 6 grandchildren Katherine (Kyle) Reynolds, Matthew Sibert, Oliver Vonnegut, Margaret Secor, Caroline Secor, and William Secor. She was also blessed with 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Robert Sibert and a son, James Sibert, in addition to her brother Hugh G. White III and his wife, Barbara who was like a sister.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Cold Spring Harbor Library, 95 Harbor Road, Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724.  A private gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
