Michael P. Hardy, 17, of Abington, passed away on September 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Michael was born in Boston on June 16, 2009, the beloved son of Amy and Shawn Hardy and the loving younger brother of Maggie Hardy.

From the very beginning, Michael showed everyone just how special he was. Born with medical complications, he quickly earned the nickname “Mr. Amazing” as he continued to surprise doctors and overcome challenges at nearly every turn. Through it all, Michael faced each day with strength, determination, and his unforgettable smile.

Michael loved being surrounded by his family and his favorite people. One of the ways he showed just how much he loved someone was with one of his famous “headlock hugs.”

He especially loved spending time with his big sister Maggie, whether they were watching TikTok videos together or Michael was listening to audio recordings of the sports articles she had written.

Michael enjoyed family vacations and trips to Cape Cod, Narragansett, Disney, and spending time with friends in Hilton Head. He also had the opportunity to try adaptive sports, including skiing, surfing, and baseball.

At home, Michael loved playing football with his dog Charlie and getting kisses from his dog Stanley. He also enjoyed sitting by the window and watching the birds at the birdfeeder.

Michael was a big fan of movies and television and especially loved Frozen, Encanto, and The West Wing. He was also a passionate sports fan who enjoyed cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, Penn State football, Boston Bruins, and Boston Red Sox.

Since the age of three, Michael attended North River Collaborative. School was truly one of his favorite places to be. He loved his teachers, classmates, and the entire North River community and was usually disappointed whenever a school vacation came around.

One of Michael’s favorite traditions was spending Sunday mornings taking car rides with Ma and Pa, often heading down toward Hull and Marshfield. Those rides and the time spent together were incredibly special to him.

Michael had a way of bringing happiness to the people around him. He will be remembered for his strength, his smile, his love for his family, and the joy he brought into the lives of everyone who knew him. To those who loved him most, he will always be their “Mr. Amazing.”

Michael leaves behind his loving mother, Amy Hardy; his father, Shawn Hardy; and his sister, Maggie Hardy, all of Abington. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Sheila and Richard Gibbons of Westwood; his paternal grandparents, Linda and Dan Massarelli of Ashburnham; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, friends, teachers, and classmates.

A visitation will be held at Quealy & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday September 22, from 4 PM to 7 PM. A Funeral home service will be held on Wednesday September 23 at 10AM.
