Obituary

Oscar Peter Anderson, known by friends as Andy and by family as Dad and Papa Oscar, passed away, surrounded by his children, on September 6 at the age of 84.

Oscar was born on July 17, 1938. He was raised by his father and mother – Oscar and Mildred in Brooklyn New York.  Married Emilia Rizzo at Saint Ambrose in Dorchester on February 28, 1960.  Oscar and Emmy then spent the next four years in beautiful Hawaii before returning to the Boston area.

Oscar was a fun loving care free man.  He lived his life fully and loved his family immensely. He was most proud of his life as a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  Being with his family – be it a phone call, quick visit and celebrating a birthday or holiday brought joy and happiness to him.   He was selfless and put the needs of those around him as his highest priority and we were so lucky to have him in our lives

He was husband of Emilia Anderson for 62 years. Beloved father of Marianne Anderson, Linda Anderson, Joseph Anderson and his wife Donna.  He was the cherished grandfather to Joseph (Joey) Anderson, Julianne Parker and her husband Jimmy, Michael Anderson, Johnny Bacon and his wife Julia, and Julie Arsenault and her husband Alex.  He was the proud great grandfather of Cameron and Brayden children of Julianne and James Parker.  He was the loving brother of Mildred Brough and her husband Al, Harriet Weiner and her husband Mike, Violet Larsen and her husband Raymond, Patricia "Patty" Egan and her husband Martin, Anita Anderson and Maureen Anderson.

His passion was music – and was a truly amazing piano player and never had a lesson and learned to play by ear.  He also enjoyed singing and playing the accordion and guitar.  He had a great sense of humor  and recently told us he was entertaining "the old people" at the Abington Senior Citizens Center.

He served in the Navy for four years in Honolulu Hawaii, worked for the United Stated Postal Service for 30 years and then Stop and Shop until almost 84.  He "discovered"  YouTube and loved to past performances of  Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presly and Liberachi to name a few.  It was so fun to watch comedy movies– as he had the greatest infectious laugh.  Although he loved to text his family on a daily basis with funny sayings and kind words – once he had an Iphone – he wanted to FaceTime with everyone all the time – so see their faces and hear their voices and it brought him even closer to his sisters living in Florida and New York.  He loved food but especially Italian food (and most when Emmy made it) and a glass or two of Merlot.   Although he grew up in New York - he was a diehard Patriots and Tom Brady fan.

He brought love, laughter and smiles to everyone he touched and will be missed but never forgotten.

We all loved him so much – without him as patriarch of the family – many of us would not be here today and all us would never have had the experience to be with a loving, caring, selfless man.

One can sum up Oscar from note he wrote that was found in his wallet – "You have Joy not from Everything, but from loved Ones – from Family".
