Patricia A.
Bugden
September 16, 1949 – January 17, 2022
Patricia "Patty" Anne Bugden was called home to the Lord in the early hours of January 17, 2022.
A child of Irish-Canadian (James Bugden) and Irish (Maureen Gilmartin) immigrants who settled in Abington, Massachusetts, Patty was raised with a strong faith, love of Ireland and devotion to the Red Sox and Patriots, a true Boston Girl.
Patty personified the Christian values and spirit to which we all aspire. Her devotion to the Church was an inspiration to us all, a devotion that she passed along to her daughters and her grandchildren (we promise to do better with that Mum). Saturday mornings were marked by Grandma showing up with goodies from Dunkin Donuts to help nudge her beloved grandsons out the door to Catechism class. The power of munchkins and hashed browns.
Speaking of power, Patty had what we refer to as Patty Power. Both in her power of prayer, seemingly having a direct channel of communication to God, and also in her freakish strength for someone so tiny in stature, allowing her to break common household objects with ease- sinks, door and window handles, etc.
Patty was kind and gentle, but she had a sense of humor and wit that would get you when you least expected it. This world just seemed to move a little too fast for her. She would want us all to slow down and enjoy the conversation and another cup of tea (after you heated it up again first) and of course to order the dessert, even if you couldn't finish your dinner.
Patty is survived by her two loving daughters, Kara Evans and her husband Eric (grand-pup, Ivan) and Kathleen Barclay and her husband Dave and their boys, the apples of Patty's eye, Puli and Lincoln Barclay. She was the loving sister of Thomas Bugden and his wife, the late Vita Bugden of Medford and Mary Brouillette and her husband Peter Brouillette of Plymouth. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews, who she adored.
The family would like to thank the amazing medical care provided to Patty by Albany Medical Center, Saratoga Hospital, and Empire Ambulance Services. Special thanks to Dr. Annette Grajny, Dr. Stephen Verdini, Dr. Molly Boyd-Smith, Dr. Prajesh Ghimire, Nurse Melissa at Saratoga and Nurse Marge at Albany for their compassion and kindness.
Visitation will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington, Massachusetts on Friday, January 21 from 4-7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 22 at St. Bridget's Church in Abington at 10:30 am. Interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Rockland.
