Richard J.
Laramee
January 23, 1941 – August 14, 2025
Richard J Laramee, age 84, born in Weymouth, MA, went to his eternal heavenly home on August 14, 2025. He died in Hospice Care at Family Trust Care Home in Cary, NC after a long illness and complications from Vascular Parkinsonism. He was the beloved son of Henry and Eugenie Laramee.
Rich was known to us all for his happy, upbeat attitude, joyful spirit, love for his family and friends, his dedicated work ethic, deeply held Christian beliefs, and his willingness to tackle and solve any kind of problem at work and at home. His passing leaves a void in all our lives who were touched by him.
Rich is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his sons Michael (Erica) of Massachusetts, Thomas of Washington and Robert of England. He is also survived by his stepchildren Amy (Paul) of Massachusetts and David (Shanda) of Massachusetts. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren – Caden, Makenna, Davin, Delphine, Alina, Nathan, Abby and Molly. Rich is also survived by 3 brothers – Ronald (Ellen) of Massachusetts, Arthur (Nancy) of Arizona and Robert of Texas and by his former spouse and mother of his children, Kathleen. He loved his large family of many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is pre-deceased by his sister Jeanne (Vinnie) and brother Henry.
After his graduation from Boston College with a degree in theoretical physics, Rich also received advanced degrees in mathematical physics from Lowell Tech and a business/finance degree from Babson College. He worked at Raytheon for 15 years on projects that earned him 4 patents, 2 in the field of microwave components as well as 2 author awards. He primarily worked in Radar Antenna Design at Raytheon. For most of his career (27 years), Rich worked at The MITRE Corp as a systems engineer on many different projects in several domains. He always said he loved his work and the variety of challenges it brought him. He received several recognitions and awards including the "first ever Medallion given to a non-Government member of the team at the joint logistics center," awarded to him by an Air Force Brigadier General for serving as Depot Management chief engineer because of his "competence in research and breadth of knowledge." People throughout the command sought his counsel for opinions, advice and input. When he retired, Rich calculated that he had spent 63,000 hours at MITRE on over 30 programs.
Rich loved music and enjoyed his hobbies of playing keyboard, harmonicas, his accordion, guitar and mountain dulcimer. He loved to play basketball, soccer, tennis and was a highly ranked avid pickle ball player. With his wife, he participated in charity work and enjoyed his time "giving back." His greatest pleasure was getting together with family and friends.
