Roberta ‘Bobbie’ Nelson Happ of Hingham, MA passed away peacefully at home on the morning of September 18, 2026 at the age of 89 surrounded by her loving children after battling Leiomyosarcoma, a rare type of cancer. She passed knowing it was the anniversary of her own father’s passing.

Roberta (known and loved by everyone as ‘Bobbie’) was born on April 17, 1937 in Weymouth MA, to the late Honorable Massachusetts State Representative Chester W. Nelson and the late Elsie V. Nelson of Braintree MA. Married for 53 years to the late Marvin B. Happ, she is survived by her three incredible children; Lauren B. Happ and her husband John Costigan of Hanover MA, Wendi S. Happ and her wife Tara Hancock of Rockland MA, and her son Glenn N. Happ of Hanover MA. She is also survived by her two precious granddaughters Elsa and Elin Hancock-Happ of Rockland MA and generations of several nieces and nephews.

Bobbie grew up in Braintree MA and is a graduate of Thayer Academy (Class of 1954) and Colby Junior College (now Colby Sawyer College – Class of 1956). Bobbie served two terms as President of the Braintree Junior Philergian Society before going on to the Executive Board of the Massachusetts State Federation of Women’s Clubs Junior Membership where she served as 2nd District Representative, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer.

Settling in Hingham with her husband in 1961, Bobbie was active in the community and Hingham School system. Bobbie served as 1st Room Mother Chairman for Plymouth River School PTO, headed the annual Book Fair, served two years as their PTO’s Vice President, served two terms as South Junior High School PTO Vice President, headed Campfire and BlueBirds, and was the Treasurer for the Young at Heart Theater for many years. As a member of the Hingham First Congregational Church, Bobbie volunteered her time working at their Consignment Center for over 30 years. Bobbie also enjoyed her 40 plus year tenure of regular gambling trips, making longtime friends wherever she went.

Bobbie’s children would like to thank all her doctors, nurses, and her private caregiver (Stephanie) for their compassion and level of care provided.

Per Bobbie’s request, there will not be any services and the burial will be private.
