Ruth
Cox
September 21, 1932 – May 20, 2026
Ruth (Richardson) Cox died peacefully on May 20, 2026, at age 93. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Richard N. Cox Sr.
Loving and devoted mother of Kenneth R. Cox and his wife AnnMarie of MA, Marilyn Gambardella and her husband Paul of MA, Richard N. Cox Jr. of CA, Russell W. (Chip) Cox of MA, and Daniel E. Cox and his fiancé Kerry of MA. She was greatly loved by her eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews. Ruth was the youngest of 10 siblings and grew up in Rockland, MA.
She loved being around people. Hearing interesting stories, socially interacting and laughing, aligned perfectly with her 32-year waitressing career at Vin and Eddies landmark restaurant in Abington. Many referred to Ruth as a passionate 'flag waver" as she was so proud of her Veteran family who served their country. 5 brothers and 1 sister who all served in World War II. Her husband Richard who served in the Korean War and her son-in-law Paul who served in the Vietnam War. Her patriotic demeanor extended to her participation and support of the long-standing William B. Dalton American Legion Post 137 and their members.
Ruth was also drawn to the elements of the ocean where she would spend time socializing with family and friends by enjoying the sights and sounds of the waves, people watching, soaking up the sun, and indulging in her favorite seafood. She was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Above all, Ruth will be remembered for her warmth, humor, patriotism, and unwavering love for family and friends. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held at Quealy & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 3, from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM, with family words of remembrance beginning at 6:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans .
