Dear friend Scott Childress. She was young at heart and loved children and enjoyed talking with them and playing games or making puzzles. In her earlier years she worked two jobs so her husband could go to law school and after he became a lawyer she continued her education obtaining a bachelors degree at Northeastern University. She was employed as a manager at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Boston at the time that the computer age was just beginning and held a position in the data entry department. After her retirement from Liberty Mutual both her and Charlie were involved in raising their grandchildren Charlene and Charles IV. and when her grandson Nicholas was born in 1994, Veronica, at the age of 73 cared for him as a baby and during his younger years while her granddaughter attended university. One of her goals was to see Nick graduate from high school and in 2012 she was able to attend his graduation in Virginia. During her lifetime she traveled extensively both in the United States and throughout the world, including Australia, England, France, Italy, and always had a good story to tell anyone who would listen. After her husband Charlie died in 1999, she got a job at Walmart in Abington to fill her time. She answered the phone and directed calls to the correct department. She also was "in charge" of the dressing rooms. Anyone that knew Veronica would appreciate the fact that she was quite opinionated and would offer advice to customers trying on outfits as to whether they looked good or if the outfit "wasn't for her'. At age of 87 she retired from Walmart but continued to be active with the Abington seniors taking many trips with her friends Veronica was a faithful volunteer for many years as she drove her route delivering lunches for the Meals on Wheels program in Abington. She was also active in the Ladies Sodality of Holy Family in Rockland and enjoyed attending functions at the Viking Club in Braintree, she especially enjoyed the Jul Bazaar where she would invite anyone passing by the candy the table to "buy some homemade fudge" She was entertaining and funny and people enjoyed her company. Up until about a year ago, she was going for day trips and wouldn't miss bingo on Mondays. She was always ready to go somewhere. Within the past couple of years she had been in failing health and her step grandchildren, Janet and Steven were living in the house with her and making sure she followed her low sodium diet and took her medication on time. Last summer she fell and was hospitalized and subsequently sent to rehab. After she came home in October it was evident that she was not the same. She had lost a lot of her spunk but could still carry on a conversation and her mind was pretty much "right on" but she had trouble getting around and had to use a walker She will be missed by many who loved her. Rest in peace Nana. A funeral service will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home 116 Adams Street, Abington Friday March 28 at 10:30am. Visitation Thursday 4 to 8pm.
