Virginia R.
(Kaplan) Ledoux
February 5, 1935 – April 22, 2026
Virginia R. "Ginny" Ledoux (Kaplan)
A life so fully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Virginia R. "Ginny" Ledoux (Kaplan), who departed this life peacefully in her home in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, at the age of 91.
Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, she was the beloved daughter of the late Florence R. (Curtis) Kaplan and Max L. Kaplan.
Ginny was a proud graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1952, and continued her education at the Chandler School for Women in Boston. She took great pride in learning and truly mastered what she fondly referred to as "all things proper."
She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Felix J. Ledoux Jr., and her brother, Lawrence Kaplan.
Ginny is lovingly survived by her daughter, Denise Gavin and her husband Neil; her grandson, Jason Gavin and his wife Amy; and several nieces and nephews, including Debra Carlevale and Diane Thomas. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ginny dedicated many years of her professional life to MB Claff & Sons, Inc., a shoe and box manufacturing company in Brockton, where she was regarded as the utmost professional secretary. Following the company's closing, she continued her career with Johnson & Johnson/Codman DePuy, where she served as a Senior Administrative Assistant until her retirement at the age of 76. She cherished the many friendships she made along the way, and to some she was affectionately known as "Aunt Bee." Among those friendships, she held especially dear her close friend, Mary Desrosiers.
Her greatest passion in life, beginning in 1968 and continuing throughout her lifetime, was her unwavering dedication to veterans. Ginny held many offices and served in numerous capacities with the Abington VFW Post #5737 and various VFW organizations across the state, including the Military Order of the Cootie (MOCA).
She served for decades as a VAVS Representative at the Brockton VA Hospital, where she and her husband Felix volunteered together in units that were especially meaningful to them, including spinal cord injury, brain injury, and hospice care. The weekly hospital parties she helped organize for veterans were among the highlights of her life.
Recognizing a need, Ginny developed the idea of a women's clothing shop at the VA. Through her determination, the concept became a reality. She faithfully volunteered every Tuesday and Wednesday, ensuring the shop was open for any woman veteran in need—whether from the hospital or the community—offering clothing free of charge. Her dedication never wavered, even in difficult weather or challenging circumstances.
Ginny also cherished her time volunteering at the National Cemetery in Bourne, where she assisted in the office and took great pride in her attention to detail and organizational skills. It remained a place very close to her heart.
In recognition of her extraordinary commitment, Ginny was honored by the VAVS for completing over 22,500 volunteer hours. This award, graciously accepted on her behalf, will remain with her eternally—a testament to a lifetime of selfless service.
In her own words, Ginny expressed that her greatest joy was helping others and showing love and care for animals—something she believed could never be surpassed.
She had an immense love for animals of all kinds, especially birds, shelter cats and dogs, and neighborhood pets. Throughout her life, she cared for many animals, with a special fondness for small dogs and "cats with character." In quieter moments, she enjoyed putting together puzzles, favoring bright colors and large pieces—though she often avoided those with animal themes, as they made her long for a pet of her own.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, May 1st at 12:00 PM in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Abington.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ginny's memory may be made to the Brockton VA Hospital (VAVS), Bourne National Cemetery, or the MSPCA-Angell Boston.
