Walter L. Fitts Jr., 84, of Middleborough, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at Nemasket Healthcare Center in Middleborough after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.
Born on November 27, 1941, in Brockton, Massachusetts, Walter was the son of the late Walter L. Fitts Sr. and Rosella Fitts.
Walter was a proud member of Local Union 4 for 15 years before beginning a career as a tool machinist with Ark-Les Switch in Stoughton, where he worked until his retirement. For the past 20 years, he made his home at Oak Point in Middleborough, where he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He could often be found relaxing in his TV room, working on puzzles, and watching his favorite television shows.
Walter shared a loving marriage of 66 years with his devoted wife, Jeannette Fitts, whom he married in 1960. Together they built a family that was the center of his life.
In addition to his beloved wife, Walter is survived by his children: Cathi Fitts-Johnson and her husband, Thomas; Susan Sullivan and her husband, Paul; and David Fitts and his wife, Kristen. He was the proud grandfather of Zach Fitts and his wife, Chelsea, Lauren Baker and her husband, Nick, Ben Fitts and his wife, Brit, and Jacob Fitts. He was also the cherished great-grandfather of Tatum, Wynni, Abagail, Austin, and Benson, all of whom brought him great joy.
Walter will be remembered for his quiet nature, strong work ethic, devotion to his family, and the contentment he found in life’s simple moments. His memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved
